B-Ball

We tried to find the ideal angle for basketball shooting. The ideal angle for me was about 46 degrees. There is no ideal angle. You can make the shot from any angle but using different amount of power. I made a shot from a variety of angles. You need more then just the proper angle. The proper angle is more of a theory and the program kinda of a gimic to improve your shot.

Da Vinci

I enjoyed seeing all the models of Da Vinci's inventions and paintings. The exhibits explained the golden ratio very well in the mona lisa and other works of art. It was a overall fun learning experience of a past inventor whose inventions were the base for many necessities we have today.

Credit cards

From what i got out of the credit card activity i now see even more how easy it is to get in debt because of the interest. People need to pay attention more to the interest of a item especially if they are buying a house or a car because the debt can burden a person for years. This proves to me more not to use credit cards when ever i can.

Chile vs Haiti

The Chilean earthquake was 8.8 magnitude earthquake vs a 7.o magnitude earthquake in Haiti. The chilean earthquake was 500 times more powerful then the Haiti earthquake. The Chilean earthquake is estimated to have shifted the earths axis by eight centimeters, causing earths daily rotations to change by 1.26 micro seconds. With this information it is estimated to take 130,500 years to change the time by a minute. We heard more about the Haiti earthquake more because the people of haiti had homes that were poorly built and were un able to with stand a earthquake. Chile had better builds and their population at the spot of the earthquake was not as dense of that of Haiti causing more deaths and more media attention.

Real world math Favre completions to attempts.

For my test i took Brett Favre's stats for completions to attempts from 1992 to 2009.
The linear regression equation came out to be y=.37x+135.2 The correlation coefficient is .71. For every 135.2 throws Favre's completion rise by .37 catches. Using scatter plots and being able to use this kind of information is very important. People use this kind of analyzing data to figure what possible completions would be for the next season. I'm sure vegas uses this kind of technique for the odds for teams to win the Superbowl the next year on a larger more challenging scale. Using the scatter plots is a easier less accurate way of predicting the stats or info for the next year or next set of data.

Math uses

There are many uses for our functions in the real world.

The square root of X function is used every day in engineering. When a engineer needs to find the hypotenuse of a triangle they would use the pathagorean theorem to find the missing side of the triangle. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080929204029AA1e7be&vm=r

We encounter parabolas in everyday life. If you throw a football you can map out a parabola in the air. The football starts at your arm height and then throw it at a angle up for distance as it falls it causes a ark called the parabola.

the most common function people encounter in everyday life is a basic line. now the line can take many forms from a simple fence post or something. woodworkers use a line when measuring a piece of wood to build a cabinet. the line must be strait and even.
